Actually Major would be affiliated to the ED, allied to the EPP but not actually members of it (hence the rather cumbersome title EPP-ED; and they wonder why the EU isn't loved by its citizens). Kenny by contrast is vice-president of the EPP.
True. It would have been more accurate for me to say that they are both members of the same European political family.

Back on topic. I would be surprised if the MPs were flocking to Bert given that he will likely be wanted for interview by HMIR in the foreseeable future. Everybody likes to be seen with the winner.

It shouldn't be surprising that people from the Conservative party in the UK would support Enda Kenny. There wouldn't be a lot of difference between FG and the UK conservatives. Now how this conservative support sits with Pat Rabbitte is not something I can understand at all

Thats interesting. Can you tell me then what would Fine Gael have in common with the Tories that Fianna Fail would not.

Look at almost any speech Enda Kenny made on immigration and crime to see where he would sit very comfortably with the conservatives

Enda shares John Brutons politics but isn't as bright.
You do realize that BA spent a good chunk of his speech yesterday praising Britian and its PM Tony Blair.

The `Celtic' part of his speech on immigration might not sit too well with the conservatives.

Enda's speech on immigration consisted of more than two words or one line. Informed immigrants that I have spoken to support Fine Gael's position on immigration.

Thats true. FF are wishy-washy on crime and immigration, or maybe we'll have a FFer come on here claiming thats not the case.
But I would say that at the moment FF and FG are closer to each other than the Tories who are definte right wing. Both are far more pro-EU than the Euroskeptic tories. In my opinion the party in Europe that most resembles FG would be the German CDU, while the party in Europe that most resembles FF would be the French Gaullists(UMP of Chirac/Sarkozy) but thats just an opinion.
