    FG and Tax Evasion

I've heard tell of a story whereby FG HQ was caught paying its staff under the table.

Does anyone know the background to this? How long ago did it happen?

They were paying clerical staff in cash, it happened in the 1990's. They later settled with the Revenue on it.

No big deal, but handy for using in debates with FG'ers on the respective ethics of their party vis-a-vis FF.

But Mr Michael Lowry is a much better name to drop in that context.

I would have thought a conscious decision on the part of party management to evade tax was more significant than the antics of a lone ranger like Lowry.

I'm not sure that I'd agree. The amounts of money involved in the clerical staff thing were pretty small. Lowry on the other hand was effectively taking kickbacks from business while occupying a very sensitive government post.

Plus he lied to the Dail, and hence to the Irish people.

What's your agenda here as a matter of interest, are you FF?

    No. Labour.

Is just something I am aware of but don't have the detail. I was hoping somebody would post a link to a news story.

Doing some research about the people you've just jumped into bed with.
Normally that's done before you are committed

'Drop' being the operative word as he was fired, unlike Liam Lawlor who was appointed to the ethics committee.

    In that case, kudos.

I take you're not a fan of Enda.
