FG up significantly in latest Farmers Journal opinion poll

According to today's Farmer's Journal opinion poll, FG now stand at 49% amongst the farmers of Ireland, up significantly since the last Farmers Journal poll in March and way ahead of FF's 36%. Taking into account the exceptionally high turnout amongst farmer voters, is this a sign that FG may very well manage to win the 50+ seats it needs to form that multi-coloured rainbow?

Good for us in places like Galway East, Limerick W,Cork N/S West. Can anyone remember what the figure was for FG in the last FJ poll? Someone ealrier claimed that FGs tradiational support among farmers and shopkeepers had gone. Well I dont know about the shopkeepers but the farmers seem to be holding up well.

The prospect of The Green Party in power doesn't appear to worry farmers too much then.

FG will need more than 50 seats. Labour is only going to win at best 22, and the Greens 9. That leaves FG needing three or four independents. It's almost worth looking forward to if only for the comedy of Enda trying to make it work.

I suppose tomorrows poll in the IT will tell us a lot about the state of play. I haven't heard the words Stamp Duty for a week. Just shows how campaigns change.

FG on the rise as FF feel the heat - Bertie's woes hit Government
By Ken Whelan & Mairead Lavery

Fine Gael have opened up a nine-point lead over Fianna Fail in the battle for the farming vote and are out-gunning their Government rivals when it comes to political presentation, canvassing and organisation, according to the second Irish Farmers Journal/Behaviour&Attitudes poll just completed.

And the poll shows that 60% of farmers expect the impact of the coverage of the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern's personal finances will "disimprove'' the chances of the FF/PD coalition being returned to power.

Opinion poll of 500 farmers shows: 60% believe coverage of Taoiseach's finances has hit FF/PD chance of victory; FF/PD still farmers' preferred Government; High satisfaction rating for Minister Mary Coughlan

Farmer's Journal polls are about as accurate as a Dublin free taker.
