Enda: Is he able to lead?

Given Kenny's practically non-existant ministerial background, and the the failure of even his own previous party leaders to promote him to the front bench, how can the public consider Kenny an alternative to the incumbent?

The guys in the Treasury building must be really bored with Bertie preparing his statement.

By the logic of the "he hasn't been in government argument" means that basically we should never even think about voting for a non government party because they don't have the experience.

Seems like a bizarre argument to me

Well let's look at this man's CV and get a bit of a feel about him:
Elected to the Dail in 1975 replacing his late father Henry (a bit of nepotism me thinks?). Played the loyal backbencher for nearly six years until the Garret Revolution. However, when Garret was swept into power in 1981, good old Enda, the Castlebar Star was overlooked. While Alan Dukes was appointed on his first day in the Dail, the man of six years experience was left out.
This was to continue throughout the entire Garret age. While others like Tom O'Donnell and yes try not to laugh Sean Barrett were promoted, poor old Enda was left behind. Oh wait, in fairness he was appointed Minister of State at the Department of Education with responsibility for Youth Affairs (or another words Minister for Nothing, I'm a token appointment because Garret botched the reshuffle and I need a Western minister!).
Then he disappeared again for five years. But in fairness to this man, he was appointed Party between 1992 and 1994. And then Alas, came his biggest appointed, Minister for the Junket (sorry Minister for Tourism and Trade) in 1994. He only got the position because Bruton sacked four ministers, including Kenny's western counterpart Jim Higgins a few months previously in a failed putsch against Bruton. And what achievements has the man got? Very few. He can't name one from his two and a half years there.
Upon Fine Gael's return to opposition in 1997, he was given the job of shadowing Sile De Valera at Arts. Nothing earth shattering. And then he was dropped by Noonan (the best decision the man ever made) from his frontbench when he became leader in 2001.

Now Taoiseach has been elected in recent times without holding Finance, Industry or Foreign Affairs in advance of his election. Experience is everything. Talent is needed. Kenny lacks these on both accounts looking at his ministerial cv. In fairness, if this man is not good enough for Michael Noonan's frontbench, surely he is not good enough for the Taoiseach's Office. The man is a complete and utter joke.

Long time reader - first time poster so newbie is perhaps a bit harsh - although kudos for deflecting the question away from what is obviously a vital question as we head into the election.

Considering the important statesman work that will be coming over the next five years (Northern Ireland peace process in which Bertie has been instrumental, the upcoming European debate on a constitution, which Bertie has also been deeply involved with etc), is this the right time for a "newbie" to take the reigns of power. At least Noonan had ministerial office, however much he messed that up (Blood scandal) - at least he had experience - Bottom line is that Enda has none and that is an issue whether you want to admit it or not.
