As someone who will attempt to be impartial on this site (just joined) - a word of comfort to any FGer feeling the blues at the latest Red C poll - if reflected on election day, then this poll would almost certainly make Enda next Taoiseach (assuming Greens jump in on Rainbow). The challenge for FG is not to go any lower than 26% - if they can do that, then Mayo Man is in all probability the next leader of the country. Whether that is a good thing is another matter.

The thing is, regardless of polls now, Enda Kenny is now in poll position and deservedly so. He can deal with the press pack superbly by all accounts and is really coming across well around the country. I wont pre-empt the voters however.

the last time that it looked like Enda was likely to be Taoiseach was Bertiegate 1 and voters took one look and baulked. I do think he is favourite as of this evening - all the more reason for some hard questions to be posed by the media to him too. I expect this will start to happen any day soon when Bertie has his swansong in Westminster. The media will not be too happy being given nothing but bland photo opps from the next Taoiseach and his handlers. Since he will likely be in the office in three weeks, how exactly will he react with creativity and imagination to the first problem on his desk - the nurses' action.

Jaysus and they accuse non-voters of being apathetic

    Let's keep this in context.

Bertie is a pile of steaming manure - no argument there.

Enda's been in the Dáil close to 30 years or so. What are his achievements?

    Zilch.

Only thing he's got going for him is staying power. He's never had an original idea or even a lucid one. The only reason that he's number one currently is that there's nobody else (similar to the way our 'president' got the job).

He's even dropping in the polls in his own constituency, despite a FF meltdown. People realise that he doesn't have an opinion on anything of substance and deals only in platitutes.

For example where does Enda stand on:
    i. Rossport
ii. US army stopover at Shannon Warport
    iii. Immigration
    iv. Privatisation
    v. The Nurses
vi. McDowel's attempt to piss on the concept of Justice by removing the right to silence and other rights that reverse the right to the presumption inocence
    vii. Tara
viii. The poster ban in Dublin
ix. Dirty drinking water, water charges and water privatisation
    x. Decentralisation
    xi. Everything else.

Christ, even the moronic mustachioed Willie O'Dea is able to kick his arse - he's currently saying that Enda has promised 2,000 Gardaí but has only bugeted for 1,000. Willie has had a good laugh at Enda and in turn jumped onto the band wagon by promising 2,000 Gardaí himself.

If Enda is crowned, it will be by default, that's some achievement.

Willie O'Dea has promised 2000 gardaí this does not include the 1000 already in training that is where Fine Gael mislead the public,in reality they only promised 1000 gardaí and hoped the rest of us would be too stupid to see through it

Enda Kenny and Bertie Ahern are both at evens on paddypower.ie Enda has climbed sharply today.

And if Enda Kenny wins the elections, its a win the for the FG-LAB coaltion. Sorry FF'ers. Spin away, but thats the cold reality tonight.

Oh and FG mislead the public? Your guy can't even tell the truth to his deputy to keep his government together at a critical time. Wow...such confidence.

When or where did water privatisation become an issue?

Give Enda a chance FFS. In a republic we should be elevating the most humble the most modest and the most honest to power. Remember the story of Fabius Maximus Contator - everyone laughed at him as leader but in the end he saved Rome from Hannibal when no one else could. Enda Kenny has been quiet but his moment will arise. He has a will of iron and a genuine love for his people and his country. He is the leader we should aspire to have.
We've seen his type in history and its what we as a nation need right now.

To be fair...FG's promise was to have 2000 more Gardai on the streets. They budgeted as necessary to put 2000 more on the streets. TBH this is more indicative of the fact that FF/PD gardai promise is almost half unfilled at the end of their term and we'll have to wait til the end of the year before being filled.

So yes...at the moment, there is just over 13,000 Gardai. FG have budgeted to bring that up to 15,000. Straws, clutching etc.
