How do Fine Gaelers think About Alan Dukes?

Appointed as the "public interest" director to Anglo, he seems to believe that is job consisted of refusing to answer questions put to him by public representatives and to defend Fianna Fail. Frankly I think he should be expelled from FG:

Dukes and Ross at Finance Committee – The Story

Paraphrasing (will link when transcript becomes available):

Ross: “Did you interview the new board members? Did you even interview [the Fianna Fail fundraiser and 'protege' of Charlie Haughey] Aidan Eames?”

Dukes: “Eh, well… I’m not going to answer that question”.

Ross: Why not? Why not answer that question? How much are these people being paid? How much is the taxpayer paying them?

Dukes: You can look at our annual reports for this year when they come out, I don’t need to answer these questions.

And so it went on. It’s not necessarily revealing that the appointments were government-made – they were probably chosen by Brian Lenihan, as he had the option – what’s interesting is Dukes’s refusal to answer the question; by doing so he protects the Government from criticism as he doesn’t confirm Fianna Fail appointed one of their own. Dukes being the former public interest representative on the Anglo board, remember. Gone native, anyone?

Dukes i'm sure went in to Anglo with the best of intentions but he's making some serious errors of judgement in my opinion. And his refusal to answer the questions today was crazy.

The realisation that he had miscalculated the barrels of cash to be thrown into Anglo by a mere €10,000,000,000.00 and counting did nothing to enhance his repuation.

I think he thought there was a small chance it could be turned around and liked the idea of being the white knight. He must have one thing in common with Anglo - poor due diligence relating to decision making.

His main error in my opinion is that he hasnt distanced himself enough from the banks history - his performance today wouldnt have been out of place back in 2007

I think Duke's role as the public face of Anglo has contributed to a certain extent to the common perception that FF & FG are in it together. All part of the same cosy cartel protecting golden circles and corrupt elites.
As another poster put it "FG are perceived as being part of the problem" by many. Dukes as a former leader of FG representing a public hate figure like Anglo Irish Bank adds credence to this even though he is not involved with the party.

Dukes' performance in front of the Finance Committe today was outrageous. His tone to Shane Ross was beyond rude; he gave every impression of resenting being dragged in front of the committee to answer questions about the €22bn the taxpayers have bestowed on Anglo. He's so deeply embedded in the arrogant, condescending circle that he doesn't realise how offensive he is to those of us who will be paying for their decisions for years to come.

I saw him on Oireachtas Report, he came across as a right twat.
    A poster of some consequence...
