Did you not read the article you linked to? €5.8 million in total to all such property owners. I have no issue whatsoever with anyone restoring and opening such properties to the public. The house itself seems to date back to 1780.

Assuming all his assets do not legally belong to Mrs Reilly of course. A man of means would have no need for such protection

Who knows? If they are completely separate companies he can't go swapping money in and out as he chooses. The route leads to court cases and fines.

You didn't read the article did you ?

It said €5.8 million in 2008, it never linked that amount to when Squire Reilly did the refurbishment and claimed the money back.

No it doesn't nor does it give full list of qualifying properties so you can pretty much make up what you want unchallenged in the same way the article does. TBH there's nothing to see here bar your own prejudices based on some very flimsy information.

What there is to see is that Dr Reilly got the state to pay for his lifestyle choice..........

Don't worry an FOI request will soon show up the detail.

I never kick a good man when he is down, but knowing of the Squire a long time in North Dublin the term "Good Man" and "Dr Reilly" is not an expression heard often.

goody goody - when reilly gives this land to the state in lieu of his debts we'll be able to plant lots of trees (is this a win win situation)

You do know that the house is not in his name and it's really none of our business what his wife does?
