Is this the way forward for Fine Gael? More tax breaks for people on 300k?
I find it very hard to believe that someone on 300k booked a holiday based on a 2 euro tax. - especially as the UK charges taxes also. Pretty poor judgement. How did they make so much money with such poor judgement?
Oh yes, I forgot that the price of things makes no difference to how people spend their money.....I'm baffled by your logic that people do not care about money.

It was a one day trip. If you wanted a one day trip to get out of the city and you could go to one place for 0.02 return and another for 10 return, which would you choose?

So you would rather that two potential tourists go to Belfast than Dublin?

The UK has departure taxes also. Are you listening? If I wanted a one day trip out of the city and there were two options that you mention above, I'd go to whichever place I want (espeically if I was on 300k). Answer the question. Does this guy not have a problem with UK taxes? And as previously stated - the tax is 2 euro to depart. So not 10 euro. Are we sure we want someone like this coming to Dublin anyway? Probably won't do very much for the economy. They'll probably walk from Dublin Airport to save 2.20 euro on the bus. The guy will probably have sandwiches packed from home. Admit it. You made the story up.

I am astonded that you think the price does not affect the demand of a product or service. I hope you come to me for some business. I would love clients like you.

About time this ridiculousness was brought to an end.
Good move. It was a bloody stupid idea.

Answer the question. Does he have no problem with paying UK departure taxes? Or just Irish ones?

As there are taxes in both the UK and Ireland - you're basically misleading us if you say that the Irish departure tax affected his decision.

He didn't have to pay a UK departure tax. His flight including all taxes cost 0.02 return.
    Well d'uh.

Since he would have to return to London, of course the Irish tax affected his decision.

He is not alone. If something goes up in price, demand goes down. It is very basic economics.

Except in Ireland. Where the housing market was over supplied yet price went up and demand went up too...

Should we just pay people to come to Ireland, altogether. That will solve everything. FG really are hopeless coming out with all this populist rubbish - let's scrap taxes!! and at the same time, let's increase spending, and at the same time, plug the defecit. This is why we're going to have another hopeless FF govt again in 2012-

Are you living in the real world? You think we should make it more expensive for people to come here?

You still haven't answered my question. Do you honestly think that increasing the price of coming to Ireland will increase tourist numbers? What planet are you on? It's guys like you who have ruined this country with your greed.
