YFG reject all of the party's key electoral changes: Times

According to the Times YFG have rejected all the senior party's main recommendations for electoral reform such as the abolition of the Seanad and the regional list seats.

Ah YFG only gets a mention whenever it does something controversial. No attention is paid to the positive things it does and there is probably an incentive to make stupid proposals to get publicity. Shame really.

People who want to be TD's and Senator's are against proposals that would make this harder or impossible. And this is news?
We have turned the corner.I commend this Budget to the House. Brian Lenihan, 9 December 2009

Well there is a surprise. Young politicians unhappy that the parliamentary creche that is the Seanad is to be abolished before they can get in there!

YFG seem to be in need of a culture shock that will bring them up to date with modern thinking......If they are to help influence future politics they will need to adopt new thinking....how can young people be so far behind?....

Maybe they're upset and feel let down that their senior heroes spent a full year on this only to come up with badly thought out PR stunts and general mickyinaroundery.

Sorry, Fianna Fáilers like yourself have no right to complain about any alleged PR stunts.

Who do you think you're fooling?

Knowing what is in the document and knowing what the Times have written, I think you'll find the Times doesn't have its facts correct. The only thing it is right on is the Seanad. A more accurate line would be to say that YFG would strongly encourage much more far reaching reforms, including ambitious extension of the list system, and serious reform of the Dail.

Is a closed list or an open list proposed? Couldn't stomach a closed list.

Personally, I would have 20 PR STV 5-seaters for the Dáil. Not fussed about Seanad.

Not sure to be honest. Haven't seen their proposed document. Its second hand info I'm dealing with.
