Qtman, it's not the farmers' problem that you are getting up at 5am and sitting in traffic all day and coming home to a dirty house and frozen pizza. Perhaps if you moved out of the city, you'd have a better quality of life. As it is, I'm sure you have Bank Holidays off and receive overtime. Farmers don't have that little luxury.
Furthermore, it's not funding for slatted houses, it's for holding tank and slurry pits that the funding is going to. And no, this expense was not created by the farmer. It was the brainchild of Brussels and the Dept. of Ag.. There was no communication between Teasgasc and the Dept. of Ag. as to whether the current holding facilities were adequate. Teasgasc advised farmers that they were fine as they were, but then the Dept. and Brussels said farmers would have to expand their tanks and pits. This breakdown certainly wasn't due to the farmers, but to incompetent beauracracy--the very ones that you were cheering for earlier on.
So, tomorrow morning when you are slogging your way through traffic and cursing us rural dwellers, remember--it's really the suits and ties you should be mad at.
