Did McDowell not announce he was retiring from public life after he was rejected by the public? So why is he giving media interviews?

I believe it was one the best moves that Enda made after the the local elections to put a nail in the future of McDowells return to the party, this man would split the party in two,There are times when Kenny convinces me not to vote F,G,the next time, If he took McDowell back my mind would be made up for all time, this man would loose the party seats across the country,I still think that Kenny has made a mistake in bringing Cannon into East Galway, especially if it shoved Barton out, still Kenny deserves credit in keeping
    McDowell out,

The impolitic term is "attention whore".

As remarked by some one earlier, he's flown a number of kites with regards to his re-entering public life. Yet when one reads the likes of this amazing observation, from somebody involved in the Government at the time....
In an interview in today's Sunday Independent, Mr McDowell said our economic crisis was the result of a "massive failure" in regulation.
..one wonders if perhaps its actually some form of dementia.

Maybe the Sindo, as an FF paper, is trying to encourage McDowell to set up a party to attack FGs right wing.

Maybe he's looking for a FF nomination?

Bertie's shoe shine boy gets angry, it has been his hallmark, as always it is self-serving.

How did he ever feel that FG would take him in, the man is deluded.

McDowell followed John o'Donoughue's strident political attacks for "law and order" but presided over rampant white collar crime, by people that were strong supporters of the PD's. I would not believe that he was corrupt, his idealogical position enabled others though to be corrupt.

Put it this way, even now, I prefer Gormley in that constituency to the idea of McDowell back again, and that is really saying something as I, like many others, am fervently looking forward to annihilation of the Green party in the next election (I would argue their support of FF is bad for even just the environment, even if they get silly "Green" measures passed - how the country is run is far more relevant to the environment).
Good point but when people abuse their unfairly awarded privileged position, it can hardly be called free market economics. Barristers (and I have nothing against them per se) are a prime example.

Very restricted entry into the market. A ban on advertising. A ban on competition for market share. Yet 9 out of 10 will claim to be supporters of capitalism. The 1 remaining one will be a champagne socialist, who still wants to preserve the status quo.

Well that's because we can't have any Tom, Dick or Harry walk in off the street and practice. Would you like that, that any ordinary Joe could throw BL after their name and represent you? Everyone has an equal chance to enter the market. Law Degree---Exams---One Year course---One year devilling---you're in.

As for a ban on advertising, if you've seen what happens in the states with regard to legal advertising, you'd know it makes sense.

The cab rank rule is there to protext unpopular persons, and I fail to see why you think it inhibits competition for market share. As is, some Barristers always have work, some have sometimes, some barely ever have.
