Parliamentary party no longer behind Kenny?

Fresh from the defeat of his preferred candidate for party chairman Kenny has lost another vote of his parliamentary party, this time on quotas for women candidates.

Setback for Kenny as proposal on quotas for women defeated - The Irish Times - Fri, Mar 12, 2010

Losing out to a pedestrian newbie like Creighton doesn't say much for Kenny's control of his PP. The writing may be on the wall for his leadership.

Its a foolish idea. I wonder is Creighton trying to undermine him, knowing that she may not be in Cabinet after an election. Why he tolerates such a poor politician and such a blatant careerist is beyond me.

I see Lucinda Creighton went against quota for women at FG meeting. But it seems to me from Irish Times today that this had more to do with her ongoing row with Kenny than anything else. Just as well we dont have many more women like her who put their own prejudices before reason. Every time she opens her mouth it is a disaster, including her now famous Frontline performance on RTE when she did not even dress properly. And there were so few people at this meeting, where were they all ,down country at funerals or GAA agms.

You'd think Kenny committed Treason and brought in IMF. Cowen had all in stitches in Galway at 3.30a.m.but he was "not impaired" -DD Power. FF=Publican páirtí an IMF.

I'd prefer to see this than "una duce, una voce"!

It also raises the question as to whether he will get the rest of his program of reform past his party. Whither now for abolishing the Seanod, cutting Dail number, and a limited list system?

I think the FG Ard Fheis is coming up. It wouldn't surprise me if this issue (quotas) was to be brought up there in the full glare of the media spotlight.

Maybe I'm a bit cynical but it wouldn't do Kenny any harm to be seen taking on his own party and winning on an issue that may also attract a large proportion of the female vote that Bertie secured but is now floating.
