Kenny gone as leader if Bruton withdraws his support: Times

Tomorrow's Times in common with all the main papers are focusing on Kenny's future as FG leader and the Times are quoting a frontbench spokesperson as stating that Kenny will be gone as leader if Richard Bruton withdraws his support.

Seems a bit of a pointless headline. Kenny's time would be up at any stage for the past 18 months if Bruton had stuck the dagger in. Same goes for Lenihan and Cowen. This is entirely exclusive of anything to do with George Lee.

Have always claimed Irish Times is deeply unreliable.

Kenny has actually showed excellent judgement in this entire affair.

He apprentices "mediastar economics guru" with a few simple tests that guru fails. Kenny still values guru and offers him promotion. Guru rejects this.

Nothing more Kenny can do except breath a sigh of deep deep relief that guru gone away for ever.

Guru now on way to land of deep deep introspection on higher meaning of economic life.

OK, let us say Kenny is not good leader because one south side cry baby.

Why would everyone FG will want take knifes, if they did its mass suicide. They want look strong and united infront of public to gain Celtic tiger cub votes.

Thought it was interesting that Varadkar failed on Frontline to endorse Kenny, in fact he explicitly stated "its been a bad day for Enda Kenny" and "Yes, there have been mutterings".....this is a crucial few weeks for Kenny...

Don't think that is true, apart from the wobbles post 2007 election, no one in FG had the ammunition to challenge Kenny. People don't mount successful and unsuccessful leadership challenges willy-nilly, they always come about from a set of circumstances....this was the case with Bruton and now with Kenny. The media misteps post Christmas, the fall in the polls and now the embarrassing departure of Lee are a good set of circumstances for any coup to take place.

My guess is that it won't happen, because Richard Bruton is not ruthless enough and he would have been through the set of heaves against the brother, seen how it distablised the party. He will be happy to bide his time and become Finance Minister post election.

Oh Dear...... Be very stupid if they did change leader , divided parties (and a leadership contest would be very divisive) are a major turnoff to the voters

FG if they wish to be elected with a strong enough mandate to dictate to Labour need to kill this leadership talk until after the next election, if they didn't get rid in2007 then they should wait until after the next election (and i cant stand the man)

Would you go on out of that. That intimation is straight out of the slow learners school of Political Science. FF have knifed more leaders than Brutus could throw a stick at. You don't see them out of power as a result of electorate dissatisfaction do you??

FG need to decide if they want Kenny to be the story for the next 6 months ( at least) . A story which will appear after every opinion poll.

IS it time to take the 'Bards' advice?

'If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well
    It were done quickly'

Pick up a factual history book rather than believing P.ie rumour

FF have had only 5 leaders since what 1966??

Lynch lead 13 years , resigned after terrible election results in Europe
Haughey another 13 years ( and try as the might the couldn't get rid of him...and even those schisms lead to FF's worst ever poll result up to that point)
Reynolds fell on his sword after the harr whelehan affair
Bertie could do no more than 3 election victories and was finished anyway brown paper bag or no brown paper bags (not that any of them ever go quietly)

aye a bloodbath 5 leaders in 40 years
