Its a failure, but the failure has context.

Secondly, Fg are the biggest party at council and European level.

The voters had their chance in June last to show what they felt about Kenny.

What they showed was that they more or less viewed his leadership as a side issue to the issue of who is on the ballot paper in front of them.

Kenny may be a side issue but he's certainly not an electoral asset. Besides, leadership is not simply a matter of personal popularity. Organisational, media management and team-building skills are hugely important.

In all three areas, Kenny's reputation is in tatters.
