So do you think Lee should have had total control over FG economic policy? Even Bruton doesn't have that, so why should Lee?

Being offered 1 frontbench position amongst c 20... after 9 months in the wilderness isn't something sufficient once trust was gone.
Why, how many frontbench positions do you think he should have had?

Speaking as an Independent isn't a serious offering: Independents get little speaking time and expecting a "One man island" on economic policy isn't sensible
But if his problem was that he wasn't being allowed speak, then being an independent would have changed that. And as has been pointed out, he'd have had a free pass onto TV and radio due to his high profile.

Clearly the guy was not marked out for politics. Good politicians listen, take on board what others say, no matter how stupid and have an endless supply of patience.

Lee had none of these traits.
I have no problem with the dismissal of stupidheads.

I envisaged that Lee would come into FG and produce policy documents that were new and innovative, and force his agenda on FG.
Declan Costelloe did the same with 'just society' in the 1960's.

Fair enough, if FG then dismissed and ignored him, he's in the wrong party.

    But he didn't.

He did nothing, then claims his nothingness was ignored.

Er, it was voted down in the Dail by the government. Or do you think that in order to be any good, an Opposition spokesman has to be able to create new TDs to back his proposals?

what did he achieve,he minded his own seat like the rest of them ,Good luck to Lee,
Opposing benchmarking wasn't "minding his seat" - especially given the number of public servants in his constituency. Neither was going against the media cheerleading of NAMA - and now we see that the IMF back his position.

When the entire public sector, RTE etc, and establishment were rubbing their hands at the prospect of benchmarking, eg money for zero productivity increases, Bruton went against the grain and came out categorically saying it was a very bad idea.

I don't remember anyone else saying that. Of course you glossed over that bit, something which has to date cost us billions, and which was a bribe by FF to the public sector constituents.

Mr kenny was the very first to lead on benchmarking, Bruton was hardly going to say somethig different,

Assuming you are being truthful, if even Enda Kenny could see that benchmarking was shjte, why the hell did ye morons continue with it?
