And who pray tell will do the showing?? Should we set up a 'neutral' board of arbitration to judge such measures? Maybe ask the question in regular opinion polls and turf out the government once the answer is over 60% yes?

After 6 weeks in a job I was qualified for: I'd be expecting to make impact... by 6 months I'd expect to be totally at home. Lee was exceptionally well qualified for politics in the current climate

    • Proven polished media commentator
    • Solid economics credentials (Msc from LSE, epxerience with Central Bank etc)
    • Track record of working in commercial sector (Riada Stockbrokers)
    • Track record of being right with his predictions
    • Solid trust with the public
    • ... but most of all: a true sense of public duty

Fine Gael owed it to the country to use him better... they should have been falling over themselves trying to figure out how to use him... instead they muzzled him.

George should have hit the ground running, been given major responsibilities commensurate with his experience and proven ability ... instead he was made toe the part line, a sad ethos of mediocrity, parochialism and nepotism. We all know now: there's no room for true professionals in Fine Gael: just hacks.

    solid trust with the public.

thats all we need to talk about.

People trust him on economics and now he is gone from FG.

however its cut or interpreted thats a major mess up by fine gael.

they lost someone who had a great connection with the public on economic issues. From a FG perspective who cares about anything else.

Yera probably, but do any of us seriously care?

If Dr Drum left with the same speel would we care as much?

you've been in a power for a handful of years in the last 80 years and Fianna Fail dominate every aspect of this state.

It would probably help if there was a functioning opposition and independent media. Together, of course, with a non-zombie electorate.

If nothing else we have confirmation that the Blueshirts do not discuss economics and have no ideas for the future. How the hell can the public be asked to vote confidence in such a shallow and empty party !!
