In fairness he's been on the radio now for 90 minutes responding to every question put to him. He's not hiding, he's not trying to make himself sound like a martyr or a gods gift, he's just saying, repeatedly, that he got into politics to try and do something positive with the economic crisis and his experience was never ever sought, just his name.

If he announced that he was launching a new party tomorrow it would garner significant numbers and support.

This is just spin. He announced his resignation at a time to maximise publicity, viz. his appearance on Newstalk, News at one, Newstalk and then Joe Duffy. Sounds like somebody who wants to maximise a situation, not minimise it.

He's a complete berk.

To counter that though, Leo Varadkar was on the Front Bench and in a senior position on it, on basically his first day in the Dail, so that clearly isn't it or at least not the full story.

Varadkar is real politician, who worked his way up through Local Government and who won a seat at a General Election. He was deserving of his berth.

Lee was never involved in politics and sailed into the seat on a wave of noxious populism.

Do you think Varadkar would have have resigned had he not gotten his way?

I cannot believe how naive George Lee was on entering politics. Did he really think he could run roughshod over all the others in Fine Geal and get his own was as a newcommer?

Do you really think FG convinced him to give up the RTE job on the promise of 5 years of sending letters to council re potholes and street lighting.

I'd say Enda promised him the sun, moon and stars in return for the publicity coup that Enda and others in FG were basking in when the announcement was made and again following his impressive vote at the by-election!

Dress it up whatever way you want and recast Lee as the pampered ex celeb if you so wish but this has been another balls up by Enda/FG.

Ahh, but Leo didn't have the profile to out shine the big hitters on day one. Rock is right - why would anyone with a genuine desire to transform the country join FG? This whole idea of 'serving your time' is lunacy. They are elected to serve the country - not FG.
