Didn't you know that losing a seat was part of SF's long term strategy in the Republic, as "factual" would state.

    Thanks lads.

So Labour lost one and SF lost one. Not a total suprise, when thought about.
Someone posted that FF lost 3. ?Correct??
How many seats did FG gain again?

Trying to get some math sorted out on this.

The other thing that takes the shine off HBAP's "Kenny won 20 seats" mantra is that the 2002 election had been disastrous for Fine Gael under Noonan (they lost a total of 23 seats that time round in comparison with 1997 under Johnnie Brutal).

In that context, regaining 20 seats was not the shining achievement HBAP is making it out to be. It still left them under 3 seats under par by comparison with 1997 (another election they lost).

The indos were decimated in 2007. They had had a bumper harvest in 2002.

I suggest starting here and moving forward: Irish general election, 1997 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Just something, after I read how Mr Kenny easily said George Lee is a thing of the past, and we are now stronger than before his resignation etc: I wonder why they invited him to join the party initially? It seems now it was really just for publicity and to gain that seat.

Why don't they miss him? That proves what George Lee said, that his input wasn't wanted, true, doesn't it?

Otherwise they would regret his resignation? But they don't care.

    Yep, I forgot about wiki.

That indo decimation must be why any views of the Dáil show so much empty spaces.

So, all Enda Kenny needs to do is achieve three more seats, from whoever, and the Party will be up to what it had under Noonan.
Mind you, Enda Kenny is a whole 4% higher in approval than Brian Cowen, though that should not be much to crow about, given a 13% satisfication with Gov't and that Enda's approval rating is actually down on what it was.

Interesting take on that. Let's see what HBAP thinks when he's finished/calmed down a bit from the Poll thread.

I think that a general rule should exist on all forums about reference to Nazis. Basically, if anything, party or person is compared to the Nazis, then the poster should be banned. Why?

    - it is a petty, childish way of arguing
    - it is obviously a ridiculous exaggeration (even comparing with Stalin or Mao is not appropriate)
    - it is insulting to all who get compared with the Nazis

    and lastly and most important

    - Nazism was, as somebody said once, a unique evil. Nothing has ever been seen to compare with it. Millions of the victims are still alive and it is insult to them to have ridiculous comparisons made.

Some idiots like Michael McDowell, Ken Livingstone and others have made such comparisons. Idiots they are.
