Ehh correction he was the best known economic commentator in the country.

    There is a big difference.
Your description shows you just believe the hype about George Lee, which I am afraid he started to believe himself.

BTW I would be interested to know of the ones who are now, or were back 9 months ago, lauding him as some economic messiah if they were calling him a pessimistic whinger in 2007 ?

I used to argue those people were wrong that he was whinging, now I am not so sure if they were right.

And yes I do acknowledge that he read the economy right, but so did lots of us.

Honestly, where the fk do RTE get these clowns ? Duffys Circus ?

Lee Seems to be suffering from David McWilliams syndrome - the belief that commenting on past events makes you a guru who should be worshipped.
    Very well said.

It has become very apparent the two of them thought of themselves as the big fish but when they find they were only bnig fish in small pond they just started *************************ing and moaning wanting to run home.

The problem these guys start believing the hype when the ordinary joes in the street start telling them how wonderful they are.
Then when everyone doesn't fall at their feet reality hits and they can't handle that truth.

The George Lee/Charlie Bird parallels are striking.

They were interviewed together a few weeks ago by Miriam O'Callaghan ('Miriam Meets', Radio 1).

They sound like The Odd Couple. MO'C jokingly refers to their relationship as a 'love affair'.

They left Montrose around the same time, and they are returning there at the same time. Charlie didn't find any new friends in Washington. George didn't find any new friends in Leinster House.

George frankly wonders whether he would have left RTE for Fine Gael if Charlie hadn't gone to Washington. (One may speculate whether he would now be leaving Fine Gael if Charlie were not returning from Washington!).

The interview is available in two parts:

    part 1

    part 2

    Strange!

Have you any evidence for a pro-FF bias on the part of Pat Kenny?

His bias doesn't scream at me.

True but tubhead more than makes up for it.
Nice to see George Hook slapped him round a bit last week.

The poor little precious didn't like been reminded of all his ff roots.
FFS they have enough grassroots in the Andrews Tubridy clan to cover Croke Park.

Enda Kenny acquited himself quite well on the lunchtime news. FG did make a bags of the coup that was GL. On the other hand Lee could have chosen to make a fuss and then when offered what he wanted as apparently he was, given it a fair effort before throwing in the towel. I'm not sure why he didn't. His career break from RTE - is it indefinite as with schoolteachers in which case he had the job security to give politics his best shot or was it a one year career break in which case he may have judged there was not enough time left to turn the situation around?
