I don't at all. I accepted that someone would blame FF for all of this, not that doing so is valid.

Maybe Lee ended up naive and petulant because of nature. Maybe it was nurture and we should look to the parents, I'm sure Freud would have angled for that. Maybe it was spending too long in a soft touch job where he could whinge and not have to do anything. I think there are plenty of possible reasons, but I think he would have to look within himself first.

George Lee is another of these political outsiders who had made a name for himself as a good political hurler in the ditch. The fatal mistake for these people born out of hubris is to think that they can parachute into politics and change things overnight. From FG's perspective they may be better off without him. By the time the next election rolled around his novelty would have worn off and he would not have had the stomach for the gruelling business of keeping a seat in a Dublin constituency.

I think it's interesting that when one of the media's star performers, who thought he had all the answers, actually got into politics, he was unable to stand the heat. Talk is cheap. Those who can do, those who can't preach.

Well as a voter for Fianna Geal I will throw my pennys worth in. Very dissappointed with Enda Kenny. Very. And very bloody annoyed.

It has been claimed again and again how Enda is a great man manager, the one trait that makes up for his chronic lack of charisma. But in 9 months he could not even manage to set up an engagement for economic discussion, in the middle of the worst economic crises this country has ever faced, between his Finance spokesman one of the countries best know and respected economists? Unacceptable.

A viable alternative to the current Fianna Fail economic policies is needed. Labour are hopless and courting the unions to shore up support, so only FG are left. And they it seems are quite prepared to shadow Brian Lenihen scribbling down his policies instead of formulating their own.

I am not angry over Lee leaving, his business. I am angry at what has been exposed at the heart of Fianna Geal. Enda Kenny has always wasted two much time in the Dail cloisters and it seems often was out of touch with that which the nation cared about. This latest episode only proves that is true. For me thats enough of a validation of Kennys inability to lead the nation. He can play a blinder at party politics, the same game that kept people away from consulting Lee, but can't see the forest from the trees. Being a good adroit party leader is not the same thing as being a national leader, and Kenny ain't got what it takes.

I wish I could quit my new job and get a compensation package before I return to my old job. Instead, I'd have to wait 6 weeks before becoming eligble for the dole.
Well Fianna Fails henchmen Gallagher and Mackin get that amount PER MONTH just to issue a few press releases for the NCA.

    A few observations:
-Very few of the 27,000 that voted for Lee voted for him because they wanted someone to fix potholes in Dundrum or get Henrietta from Sandyford a medical card. They were led to believe that this was someone that Fine Gael would use to devise policies to get us out of recession
-Lee believed that the Government would fall in the Autumn and that by the end of the year he would be in cabinet. Now he sees the Government lasting until 2012 and if and when FG are elected the recovery will be underway and Kenny will appoint his cronies to cabinet. He just made a decision now that he knew he would be taking in 2012.
-Richard Bruton did not want an upstart invading his territory.
-Lee was hopelessly naive if he believed he would be welcomed by the benchwarmers in Fine Gael. Also the FG response to NAMA was riseable and I did not hear Lee make any contribution on that.

I'd agree with all of that OldIRA, aside from the Naive point. If he was say Eddie Hobbs or McWilliams who had run on the same ticket you could say that, this guy was a reporter coming from a background that would have made him fully aware of how Irish politics worked. Naivity is not an excuse.

Quite incredible own goal by FG. It seems that having recruited a stellar big name,
they wanted him to vegetate with the backwoodsmen doing clinics and going out into the hinterland explaining car crash economics to the great unwashed. Really what needed to be done was to shift Varadkar to Justice or something else on the Front Bench and let Bruton continue shadowing Lenihan in Finance and for George to shadow
the other main economic department, DETE, where he could play skittles with the hapless Coughlan.
With Lee and Bruton operating in tandem on the main economics departments, life could have been very uncomfortable for Biffo. While Lenihan is an effective operator and has a positive image with the electorate, even apart from the sympathy people have for his illness, Coughlan is a reminder of how bloody awful this government actually is.
Lee would have torn her to pieces daily if FG had the nous to put him there.
    They didn't
And that was a massive failure of leadership.
    Kenny must go.
