Lee was not even asked to give input on economic policy, another own goal by Kenny.

I have to admit, this will be a serious blow to FG, and no matter how they will try to spin Lee's decision to leave, it will have a negative impact on him.

It might also open up a wider debate on what TD's actually do day to day in the Dáil, which will put TD's from all parties under the spotlight.

Let's be honest, anyone with any knowledge or interest in politics, will know full well, that a huge number of TD's are simply a waste of time in the job that they are elected to do i.e. that of being a Parliamentarian. In effect they are jumped up county councillors who spend most of their time fixing potholes, getting medical cards, and attending funerals.

Lee obviously had no intention of doing this.

He will also have realised that while he had a strong economic background, and a strong media presence, he was always behind Richard Bruton when it came to being a FG spokesperson. And, though FGers here seem to deify Bruton, I think that was a big mistake. Bruton is to many lay people, just another life politician, and no matter how smart he is, or people think he is, he doesn't connect with ordinary people when talking about economic matters. Lee would have been a much better person to elucidate a FG policy.

And even worse, he will have realised, that when the numbers are crunched after the next election, that FG will be in Coalition with Labour, and the likliehood is that the next Minister for Finance is more likely to be Joan Burton even above Richard Bruton.

I've just listened to Lee tell Radio 1, that despite his economic background, FG never bothered even asking him his opinion on the formulation of economic policy matters. They brought him in to win a seat, and then ignored him, because in their opinion, like in most political parties, ability doesn't matter, location or time served matters. That's why we have both eejits in Ministerial positions, and why we have eejits in Opposition as spokespeople in areas where there are people better qualified to do the job.

He's cutting the back off FG for bringing him in, and then allowing him no input whatsoever.

Don't think that this is coming across too well for George Lee, or for Fine Gael.

Everyone just looks a little childish and rubbish.

He said he had been talking to Enda for about a week, that there was indications that 'something' might be on offer but that he viewed it as too little too late.

This is the same as a football manager signing Ronaldo and leaving him on the bench.

No, he's not sounding childish, he's sounding completely honest. He joined on the basis that he believed that FG wanted his to help formulate economic policy and when he was elected, they didn't use him.
