OK, I am pandering to the anti-FG brigade here, but what the hell! The only criticism that I have ever heard of Enda Kenny is that he does not have the X-Factor (apart from the hair of course). Now it would seem to me that this is because there are two types of people in this country; those who want to be led and need to look up to someone, and those who think rationally and objectively.
Even his most ardant critics recognise that Enda has done a superb job bringing FG back from the abyss. But any praise is usually stopped with the words "Ah but he doesn't have the X-Factor..." or some such nonsense. These folks invariably feel the need to look up, have some kind of huge inferiority complex and if they were British would be fawning all over the Royal family. Ironically they will all claim to be proud Irish and get this knickers in a twist at any civilities shown to the Royals, such as Bruton's toast to Prince Charles. Nonetheless they feel the need to fawn over something and in the absence of a royal family, they shout demented messages of support. Just look at the gombeens who support Haughey and Ahern and shout "Good man yerself, sure you're one of us",ignorant of just how scewed they have been...similar to peasantry supporting the royals.
On the other hand there are those who look at ability and results. A few years ago I hired a college graduate with exceptional results but not real experience in our field - best hire of my life. Enda is a bit like this guy- little direct experience in the area, but the signs are good. In the areas he has been outstanding.
So my theory is that folks are moving away from an hysterical need to follow, to being far more rational in their voting choices. This is why Enda will be Taoiseach.
