McDowell ditched in new FG Poster

Just spotted one of the new Fine Gael Billboards. It seems McDowell has been ditched in favour of a beach setting. Perhaps its only with the health ones though. I guess people feel sick enough without having to look at his mug!

Some of the stats are interesting: 250 people on A+E trolleys

    Health insurance up 67%

    29,000 people on waiting lists

    200,000 medical cards promised.....only .... 25% delivered.

The Everythings great slogan stays in place with Fianna Fail underneath.

Don't think we need to see him on a poster to remember his track record. I don't think that negative campaigning does any party any good in the long run and Think it is a good move to remove his face from FG posters.
It's the type of poster which could backfire on FG.

I think there might be 2 posters in the campaign - one on health and one on crime!

I'm not so worked up about negative campaigning as lots of others.
Certainly, it and scaremongering are main tactics of the government parties when talking about their opponents. Just listen to anything FF have to say about the Greens.

But I do have a problem with dishonest campaigning. Has anyone from the government really seriously said "Everything's great"? Or is this a made-up quote or paraphrase?
(Or to take YFG's newest debating point, was the government person properly authorised to make the claim, or was it a solo run unrepresentative of the government? )

At every oppertunity the govt claims the rainbow will raise taxes, which they do not advocate.

    Not quite.

If the government said that the rainbow advocates raising tactics, then that would obviously be a lie, and easily shown as a lie.

But the government don't say that. They tend instead to claim that the rainbow will have to, or will be forced, or will end up making the decision to raise taxes.

I'm sure there's lots of examples of dishonest campaigning by the government though.

Re: McDowell ditched in new FG Poster

When will FG/Lab start to realise that the Health Service is not an electoral issue?

People like to moan about it, but very few people let it influence their vote.

Not sure what this is, perhaps a general sense of ennui and cynicism about the ability of any political organisation to improve matters.

Doubters should consider the impact that all this bluster has had on FG/Lab's poll showings over the last 2 years, and the fact that in 2002, when the HS was as 'bad ' then as it is supposed to be now, the electorate gave the sitting Government 6 extra seats.
The only way to change the world is to win elections.

when someone proves it's not. I would say it's one of the core issues, especially for the elderly and young couples with kids. It's a critical public service, and once again, will dominate this campaign. In 2002, Michael Noonan was FG leader, so everything he said was met with "what about McCole?" attacks. FF-PD just hope it's not an issue.

But next to gun crime, traffic hell, cronyism, and corruption it might fade. You're right
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.
