NEW POLL--FG/Lab now 6% closer to Govt Parties

It is reported that tomorrow's Sunday Tribune/IMS poll shows a swing to Fine Gael and Labour, with Fianna Fáil, Sinn Féin and the Greens all losing out.

    The reported results are:

    FF 39 (-3)
    FG 22 (+2)
    LAB 12 (+2)
    SF 7 (-1)
    PD 5 (+1)
    GRN 5 (-1)
    Others 10% (-)

This puts the Government on a combined 44% (-3), with the FG/Labour/Green alternative at 39% (+3).

    PDs 5% +1

    Making FF/PD 44 FG/Lab 34 and FG/Lab/Gr 39

These are, however, meaningless additions of figures.

FF down a bit, FG & Lab up a bit, everything else not worth commenting on.

What are the bets on FG industriously hyping this yet again, with the media swallowing it yet again.

BTW, in relation to this "swing to" figure, are we now to say that there was a "swing to" FF of over 10%?

This is a phrase which has some relevance in British polls but none in our system in the absence of panel data to say where votes come and go to.

Is 22% not a bit low for FG? Most other polls have been showing them in the 24-27% range for months. Since when did they dip to 20%? And 5% for the PDs, after they became irrelevant and McDowell was finally exposed as a blowhard, coward and fraud in Bertiegate - aye right.

The january polls - comming so close to the budget giveaway - is ment to give ff a bounce and depress the alternative. Surely it is newsworthy that the opposit has happened???? FG/LAB are perfectly entitled to see this as a boost!!!!

And the pub;lic is perfectly entitled to be sick and tired of endless poll-based sounding off by politicians.

    It's very, very boring.
