    FG worried about Foreign students

FG are worried that foreign kids will leave school without knowing English.

According to the Department of Education, there are some 18,000 pupils at primary and 8,000 at second-level whose mother tongue is not English.

Surely the answer is to limit the numbers allowed in?

It will help alleviate the already severe pressure our educational system is under trying to cope with this unplanned influx - one BTW our politicians assured us would just not take place!

FG should be more worried about these non English speakers slowing down and damaging the education of our own Irish Students.

If the Teacher or lecturer has to go over things 20 times to get the message across to a foreigner who isn't fluent then this damages Irish students education and wastes valuable time.

    Worry about what's important.

    That's FG failing all along.

Ummm... surely the solution is to offer extra classes in English to schoolchildren?

If somebody is in the country and attempting get an education and integrate, surely it seems logical to give them every opportunity to do so?

And the same allocation of resources away from Irish kids education to cater for the next 26,000 foreign kids who arrive here, and the 26,000 after that, and the next 26,000 after the last batch - that would be a never ending story!

Oh and please don't tell us it could never happen - that's what we were told the last time!

    What a gob************************e.

Any chance the name of this thread could be changed? Its ever so slightly misleading. Sicne it came from Catalpa, I don't think anyone will be unduly shocked
