Lenihan on Prime Time tonight: "Cash is King"

Our finance minister reckons that banks will lend money to the little people once the NAMAfication of their toxic loans has been completed - "Cash is king", he said twice.
These three words just about sum iup the whole history of his party in the last 40 years.

Little should have stuck it into him a bit more forcefully about how there's no legislation at all to guarantee that banks start lending once Nama takes over.

Watching that interview really made me despair for Irish politics.

Heard Dara Colleary being interviewed on the radio about whether the banks would start lending again without anything specific in the Nama legislation....his response was that the governement would have the moral authority(having introduced Nama) and that this would lead to the banks lending!!....Fe8king planet cuckoo.....we depended on the banks "morals" not to lend like crazy 5 year olds and look where that got us!!!

I thought lenihan performed v.poorly, he definitely squirmed on the question of Anglo's loan of 50 million to Liam Carroll.I thought that Mark Little did peruse lenihan and didn't allow him to evade answering questions.

They did that in the 80's too, but the interest rates went so crazy we couldn't repay the debts, never history repeating itself is it

68 million no less. Now if that is not a bail out.............

If they dont give Carroll the 68 million the asset will be worthless !!!!!

So how many more 68 millions will they give out.

The scary thing is the money is to complete Anglo`s Head Office. They have a bloody Head Office as it is with 1,700 staff that they no longer need....................

Call Alan Dukes, the taxpayer's representative on the Board of Anglo. He'll explain everything.

Cash Is King sounds like something learned on an induction day at a call centre.

Pretty soon I expect to hear reports of Lenny walking around the Dept of Finance speaking like that Baldwin guy in Glengarry Glen Ross saying things like:

    'A B C - Always Be Closing'

or 'Smile and Dial everybody, put on a happy face'

    etc etc.

Has it come to this that we are allowing our Govt Ministers explain away perilous financial situations with inane slogans?
