O'Donoghue and all of the TDs and ministers are paid too much in a country that has not even been able to give the people a decent health service or its children proper schools instead of portakabins.

But there is more than a touch of double standards about the Indo/Sindo getting all populist and indignant about it. When will we see an article about how much "Sir" Anthony earned in the same period or how much wealth he has stashed away all over the world, what he does with it, and so on?:

Sir Anthony doesn't screw the taxpayer, I suppose, and it is up to us whether we buy his rags or not.

O'Donoghue is simply a gombeen parish pump FF factotum who has been living high on the hog on money screwed out of the taxpayer. Considering the Dail is one of the parliaments that sits the least number of days anywhere in Europe, one can guage the extent of the legalised larceny. For the number of days tha Dail sits, the Bull was raking in over €3,000 a day. Handy number.

    * €7.6m was claimed by TDs for travel and subsistence costs.
    * A further €1.5m was claimed by TDs for travel in their constituencies.
    * €1.5m was claimed by TDs in miscellaneous expenses.
    * €1.9m was paid out to TDs to cover telephone costs.
    * A further €55,000 was allocated to TDs for the purchase of mobile phones and car kits.
    * €440,000 in constituency office grants was allocated to TDs.
    * A further €2.4m was allocated towards constituency office maintenance.
    * Special secretarial allowances totalling €548,000 were also paid.
    * TDs claimed €248,000 in Oireachtas committee travel expenses.

I wish my job would allow me to claim unvouched miscellaneous expenses.

Interesting point; who is the current Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism? and I wonder if he is going on as many junkets as the Bull did... now that the whole country is watching...

I mean, if O'Donoghue ever grows a pair and faces the public (before his vote of no confidence in a month), I am sure he would try to justify his trips and expenses as he being an ambassador of Arts, Sports and Tourism, and as such needs to 'represent' as they say around the Kerry massif...

I know 'they' are saying that 'they' are managing the expenses a lot more closely now. They not attending any events? Or are they making the current fella fly Ryanair and catch a bus. (No harm if he has to)....

The final nail in the cross I think is the relative silence from the opposition - they are either as culpable, or they are just that spineless...

I was listening to the radio yesterday and the political correspondent of the Irish Times was describing the day JOD (as CC) had attempted to introduce changes to TD's expenses. He described FF TD's huddled in groups and a sense of real anger in the air - as if the tanks were about to be sent in.

I wonder was this day the beginning of the end for Junket John and the reason for all the leaks about his own expenses?
