Defamation allegations from solicitors for Monica Leech

Last week I received a letter from solicitors acting for either Monica Leech or Martin Cullen (I am not certain who is funding them) last week alleging that my web page "Monica Lewinsky" was "tantamount to alleging that Monica Leech prostituted herself".
They asked me to remove it and complained to my site provider also.
    I vigoriously denied this allegation.
My entire article is a somewhat mocking satire on 'Cronyism" and the 'jobs for the boys" system which permeates politics here-and probably in most other countries.
If any of you young gentlemen are law students I feel certain you will concur that there is no case to be made for such an allegation.
There are many libel writs flying about re the 'Monicagate" controversy as you all know by now..and a High Court case likely after the next election.

Defamation allegations from solicitors for Monica Leech

 I sent a copy to Goldhawk straight away.He gave me the impression he knows a lot of the s**t thats going down on this.
Its a pity RTE cant press for the court case just prior to the next election. Then again it might bring in a huge sympathy vote for the "Soldiers" from many of the rural resident, rosary reciting biddies ,farmers and sundry rogues, that they rely on for re-election.

    Defamation

Its a shame that that idiot came on air anyway because their was such a build up of public anger against Cullen that he would probably be history by now, if the Joe Duffy distraction was not allowed to steal the spotlight.
In effect that moron did him a huge favour.Cullen should be thanking him-not suing him.

At any rate the fact that he is still in government will surely mean a few thousand less votes for Fiana Fail next June.

    Who is bankrolling it.?

As I have said on my website it is my belief that given the enormous costs involved in High Court actions-Monica Leech is not funding this hugely speculative "Gamble".in the Four Goldmines.
It is my belief that only Martin Cullen would have the brass and arrogance (a la Beverly Flynn) to try and intimidate the free press. He may be going one better than Beverly i.e.-using taxpayers money to do it.!

Perhaps we will soon see the day when information on corrupt or incompetent politicians will have to be disseminated in an "underground" press, secretly and by stealth-as in the repressive days iron curtin of totalitarianism.!!
If another government ever get into power we want reform of the libel laws and the so called "freedom of information act"-
    Rainbows please take note.
A proper police ombudsman would be another groundbreaking move by Rabbite and Enda.

I always wondered whether that phone call might have been a set up designed to get Cullen off the hook at the time. I don't think most people could be so stupid as to make that sort of allegation on live radio without knowing what they were doing.
With a nonsense allegation to tilt at instead of the serious ones he was facing in media and government inquiries at the time, Cullen was able to stifle discussion of his behaviour and let the dust settle around him.

    Monicagate

Judging by the tone of the interview with the culprit in the Village magazine (its on my web article) I doubt it.The guy sounds like one idiotic moron to me.
Just a stroke of luck for a political stroker.!

Latest news in the "Monicagate" scandal.

    Re www.soldiersofdestiny.org web site.

    Dear XXX,

My apologies, for missing your last letter but neither my friends nor family open e-mail attachments (as you may understand) or registered letters addressed to me,when I do not know the sender.

I have recently made minor amendements to my article on the controversy commonly referred to as the"Monicagate" scandal. I did not accept that it is in any way "tantamount to alleging that Monica prostituted herself", but I am happy to make any changes to ensure persons could not possibly misconstrue the content in any way.

The public are very aware that all political parties involve in cronyism, and that is the central theme of the piece. I accept it would be possible to take this meaning from the article. However cronyism is not yet a crime- nor is the penning of a satirical piece, on the topic.
the contract terms of the P.R. activity certainly raised a few more eyebrow-than mine.

While I reiterate I cannot fathom how you would read anything I said as alleging Monica had a sexual relationship with Martin Cullen, I have taken note of the wording you referred to in your e-mail,and made some small amendements to the text.

If you have, on re-reading the item, any other specific objections to wording within it, please forward me details and specify the exact wording that displease you. I will review your comments and seek professional advice on defamation law, if I feel it is warranted.

Meanwhile please recommend my site to your friends.I am constantly endeavouring to improve it and you will note that I have included links to streaming video from RTE, in some of the still topical stories.

    Best Regards, Soldiersofdestiny.org web site

I received a reply today, from the solicitors stating that I had acerbated the situation by making public the current exchange of correspondence on my web site.
I was informed that they would not be in touch with me again, and that I should seek legal advice.
I see no reason why threaths of litigation should be shrouded in secrecy.

    Yes, an honourable man, really.

Listen, nobody really cares what you (or your website) do or don't do. You're not brave, you're not a rebel, you're not a good web designer, you're not funny, you're not...well, you're not a lot. We don't really care. I'd love it if you left the site. Perhaps if we asked you to pay tax, would you go away then?
