Indeed and people shouldn't confuse the two. Lost at Sea is the one with legs at the moment, and the source of Ms O'Reilly's frustration, so anything related to that should be posted over on that thread (linked above) and not in this one.

I have only read the beginning of this thread but the implied cronyism at the outset whereby Fahey wrote to his own constituents 4 months prior to the launch of the "Lost at Sea" Scheme is in line with another dupeing of honest fishermen he presided over whilst minister in that department.
I'm referring to the convenient way he allowed the total tonnage of the Irish Fishing Fleet to be increased by 14,055 tonnes to accomadate the registration o the €50m, 144 meter super trawler "Atlantic Dawn" which coincidently had a gross tonnage of 14,055.
One of the conditions of this was that the vessel owner de-registered his 106 mtr super trawler "Veronica" from the Irish register. However, the owner was allowed to retain the 5,206 tonne associated with this vessel and this tonnage still formed part of the overall fleet tonnage.
This owner was then able to "sell" the tonnage at an average of €5,000 per tonne within the industry to other owners wishing to upsize their vessels or young fishermen looking to enter the industry at that time.
Hardly seems fair. I cannot remember much questioning from the main opposition party of the day although I do seem to remember Green MEP (at that time) Patricia McKenna causing a fuss and Irish Times journalist Lorna Siggins doing a number of articles.
Just another Faheyism to muse over.
Sorry if I've gone off topic here.

Polly Thicks, you seem to be very well informed. what's your opinion on the way that the Veronica and Atlantic Dawn were used in plundering fish off the coast of Africa?
Also, Martin Ferris is on the record of making an allegation that the Atlantic Dawn, now registered to a Dutch consortium is currently fishing off the west coast of Ireland still using its Irish quota.
