I think that the tent is an outward display of the Capitalist attitude of the FF party....It is an opportunity for deals to be made behind closed doors by developers and other fat cats who want to influence the decisions of the government to maximise thier profit margins...It is a cynical exercise of contempt for the average FF voter who cannot affort the luxury of paying to see their party leader..It marginalises the average FF voter and shows that the party are more concerned with their wealthy benefactors than the average party member who marches door to door during elections and does all the donkey work for their respective candidate free of charge...

There is nothing wrong with a party fundraising but should the Taoiseach and senior cabinet members be seen socialising with the Baily brothers who are under investigation by CAB and who have been involved in very shady property deals? Mick Baily was prominent behind Bertie's shoulder on the telly the other evening. Guest of Mr. Baily on the day was none other than the guy who sold the site at Thornton to the Department of Justice!! Why would he be on Mr. Baily's guest list?? Well because Baily's own land in the area that will be miraculously become open for Development when the Department spends millions beinging infrastructure and services to the Thornton! Its only hearsay but I believe it!

Having said all that I do know a couple of people who were in the vicinity of the tent and they all said it was great crack.

Well is it morally right that if it starts pishing rain, that some people will have dry heads whilst others mill about the place looking for an umbrella?

What sort of a Republic have we got where the well to do can waltz around like there no rain at all, safe in the knowledge that there is a TENT covering them at all times?

Sure would'nt we all love to be covered? Where is the equality in knowing that your $150 hairdo won't look like a feckin' crows nest by the time the 3.45 starts off, simply because you "have a tent at the Galway races, don't you know"

I don't what this country is coming to. That new party "Tents'R'Us" are definatly getting my number one next time out.

I'll be posting my number two's in a tupperware box to FF headquarters

In order to check if there's something unusual in FF's tent practices, could FG and Labour give a commitment to let the media attend their main non-internal fundraising events?

It is without doubt a FACT that Labour have accepted Capitalism, and are happy to do a deal with a vehemently pro Capitalist party. No genuine Socialist worth his salt would go into power with a pro capitalist party.

As for tents, no point us having one at Galway Races, as we dont accept donations from Business! We'' continue selling our raffle tickets and our papers and journals to raise funds thank you very much!

Me thinks a tent on the beach at Courtown in Wexford with Free glasses of Lemonade and 7-up and bowls of Popcorn and Salted Peanuts would the order of the day. We'd be interacting with a lot of supporters and possible supporters, and the event would be cheap to run too!

There's a good in-depth piece on "the tent" by Scott Millar in the new issue of Village magazine...

    are you former UCD LY?

My refusal to take donations from Elvis Presley an equally substantive point, but hey whatever lets you sleep at night sound in the delusion youre fighting 'the man'

I had wondered where the FF/PD influence on that 'decision' came from! If there was a FF/PD 'friend' on Malin Head with a big enough field, I'm sure s/he would have got the gig.
