Has FF sucess proven we were not worthy of independence?

Given the repeated election victories of FF over the past decades have the electorate proven that we are incapable of excercising our independence? Should we seek to rejoin the UK and be governed better? Why do the Irish electorate continually reward the cute-hoorism, gombeenism and nepotism of Fianna Fail and wonder why the country is in the state it is in....?

Are we independent? Last time I looked a quarter of the territory was occupied by a foreign power and 80% of our legislation came from Brussels.

They dont. There is corruption everywhere but in other countries those caught are punished - look at al lthe UK politicians caught and jailed and even now careers ended voer expenses - such things NEVER happen in Ireland. Name ONE politican sent to jail for corruption - Burke went for not paying tax, Lawler for contempt - not the actual crimes they were charged with and then you have CJH and Bertie. Pity Bertie doesn't follow the good example of the South Korean President and top himself.

Yet in Ireland, when you are a cute hoor you top the poll - the evidence is all over the place and then people moan about hospitals and transport etc - they have only themselves to blame. I have never voted FF or SF or given them a preference and never will.

All the rest of the population who can not say the same need to wonder what it is about them that they are too thick to link the way they vote and why Ireland is one of the most corrupt countries in Europe.

No i dont, The Irish people at the end of the day are going to elect whom they think will further their interests.

I think the Irish people have proven they are more than worthy of independence, This state was founded in the 1920s and went through huge de stablising periods, when most countries were turning to facism or communism Ireland held firm.

Nepotism isnt just a problem in FF, Look at the FG front bench. Kenny,Bruton, Coveney, Enright. FG history as well, Three FG leaders have come from political dynasties.
'A defeatist attitude now would surely lead to defeat, it primarly a question of whether we have confidence in ourselves and the dilligence and determination of our people,We can't opt out of the future.' Sean Lemass (1965)

Strange though it may seem, a life long member of Sinn Fein told me a short while ago that in hindsight and given the despicable way Fianna Fail have treated ordinary people and the meaness of Fine Gael, he believes we would have been better off socially, ethically and economically under British rule.

Not much else left after that, is there?

Pretty typical Fianna Failer comment. You boys are really like FG nowadays.

How ashamed men like Mellows, MacEntee and lemass would be of your lot.

All it proves is that Fianna Fáil are not worthy of being in government.
