O' Donoghue congratulates Kennedy on Eurovision win!

    Link

DUBLIN (Reuters) - Ireland's Arts Minister congratulated Irish Eurovision song contest entrant Brian Kennedy on Monday for winning the competition -- except it was won by Finland.

Monster-themed Finnish rock band Lordi was the surprise winner of Saturday's show, clinching victory with the song "Hard Rock Hallelujah".

Although Ireland has won the contest more than any other country, Kennedy -- who opted for a more traditional style ballad entitled "Every Song is a Cry for Love" -- came 10th.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism said the press release congratulating Kennedy on a "marvellous win", which appeared on the department's Web site, was posted due to "human error" and removed after about 20 minutes.

After Ireland's seven previous Eurovision wins, Minister John O'Donoghue might be forgiven for getting carried away.

What involvement do you think O'Donoghue actually had in this?

    Also, fix the link.

I reckon O' Donoghue should resign over this.

This is indicative of how out of touch the present Government are with ordinary people.

But, I suppose in true O' Donoghue fashion, he will heap blame on some poor unfortunate civil servant, and then tell the relevant Dáil committee that he has no responsibility for the actions of the employees in his Department.

If the PD's had any guts, they'd demand a head on a plate over this.

    This is disgraceful... an outrage

    Time to go John.

Maybe the Decentralisation plan, as well as moving O'Donoghue's department to Killarney, also included decentralising Brian Kennedy to Finland by 2006 (best part of the plan). And O'Donoghue assumed it had happened by now.

Come on, its no more outlandish than the thought of Kennedy actually winning.....

I think O'Donoghue needs a serious education as to what the Eurovision actually is, a disgraceful & demented waste of taxpayers money. His lightly & unkowingly handing out compliments is indicative of his deep remove from every day life.

As penance he ought do some significant investigation of what the Eurovision is...

Maybe... send O'Donoghue to next year's Eurovision... as our entrant ?

It's a quick and dirty way out of the EU, I suppose.

Barry, you shouldn't have started another thread on this when you clearly know one already exists.
