What is the current Government Majority?

With all the talk of General Elections and the like, what is the current Government majority?

With the reality that the 2 bye-elections are going to be won by opposition parties and the possibility of Pat 'the Cope' winning in the North West, what will this mean to the current Govt Majority?

If we assume the two by-elections and Pat Gallagher's seat are gone, then I think that leaves FF on 74? FF+Green+PD=82.

So they need the Indos to keep propping them up. I think they can probably rely on McDaid, Behan and Healy-Rae though, all FF men in reality. So 85.

The Donegal by-election might happen quickly though, FF would fancy their chances of retaining that seat, and the most likely non-FF winner would be Pearse Doherty of SF not FG or Lab.

Independents aren't exactly wedded to the FF whip. Depends on the gene pool of the individual Independent TD. You'd think now's the time for them to slip quietly across the floor.

Is Jim McDaid still classified as an Independent?

But all 5 of them would have to jump ship and - and this is the important bit - actually vote for an election to have any hope of bringing the Govt down.

And can you really see FF men like McDaid, Behan and Healy-Rae actually voting to put the Blueshirts in power?

Even if they abstain FG + Lab + SF is only 77.

You need either the Greens or 5 FF backbenchers to defect/abstain to push this shower out of power before 2012. The Indos alone just aren't enough.

The Greens wont, they are a bunch of spineless FF lackeys at this stage.

Whats wrong with showing dissent towards the current Gov? are you one of the sub 20% of people who think our Gov is doing a good job?. Or are you one of the 3% of Green supporters? maybe Digout is an aggrieved Green voter who didn't expect them to jump into bed with FF? because for sure there are a lot of them out there!.
