Kelly was talking about out of town superstores and not Tesco in isolation and I'd agree with him. Whether it is Dunnes or Superquinn or whoever the out of town developments hurt communities.

if Tescos left the south, that would only encourage the other brands put their prices up.
So its a no-win situation for the consumer.

There is also the social dimension to tesco. They are a vast multinational trying to impose a one size fits all idea onto the Irish market. To them we are another part of the UK and will treated as such with all that entails for our identity. If Tesco was replaced by smaller locally owned shops then it would be better for us all round.
