A Black Flag vigil to mark the 25th anniversary of the death of hunger striker, Bobby Sands, was held in O’Connell Street in Sligo on Saturday afternoon last.

Participants in the vigil included local Sinn Fein and Fianna Fail councillors.

Sinn Fein was represented by councillors Sean McManus, Chris McManus and Michael Colreavy, while Fianna Fail councillors Seamus Kilgannon and Aidan Colleary also attended.

Why not? First they stole the rising and went up in the polls, sure take the hunger strikes and they will be on course for an overall majority.

Irish people will never forgive Thatcher - Cllr Kilgannon May 06, 4:14 pm
Also speaking on Ocean Current this morning, Sligo Fianna Fail Cllr Seamus Kilgannon says that Margaret Thatcher will never be forgiven by Irish people for refusing to give in to the prisoners' demands to be recognised as political prisioners.

Gerrry, this thread probably makes more sense than most of your posts.

But I'm damned if I can see how.

Meh. There's always been FFers who have commemorated the hunger strikers. Even going back to the time itself when Sile Dev and O Cuiv used to visit them in jail. It's no big deal.

Well, not that you would probably understand, but I just wondered whether FFers (either at grassroots or at Government level) felt uncomfortable having their elected reps attend commemorations for IRA volunteers considering that they consider the IRA as 'Criminals'?

On Easter Monday another FF cllr in Sligo, Martin Baker took part in the unveiling of a commemoration stone to Volunteer Kevin Coen who was killed in action in an ambush with the British Army in 1975.

The way FF are acting lately, if they think theres a % point in the polls from supporting the Hunger Strikers, they'll pull out older pics of a less rotund Sile Dev, and that long streak of misery that in Dev óG, and they'll claim that they were on hunger strike as well, in sympathy.
