I, like I'm sure many more, didn't see the particular news item last night. But FF have decided to draw extra public attention to it, so now I am (and I'm sure many more are) interested. FF have a lot to learn about letting sleeping dogs lie.

This argument is constantly put forward by RTE, ie

We get things wrong, but when get them wrong in equal proportion.

They're a complete joke in terms of professional journalism.

When was the last time you heard a BBC newsreader use an adjective like 'big', or 'lengthy' or 'historical'?

They even got the report in question wrong, where Anne Doyle said the painting was hung 'illegally'. Do we have laws now about unauthorised hanging of paintings?

    Amateurs.

    The picture

If anyone knows or can contact the artist i would love to purchase the piece for permantent public display (at the right price). I am sure it would fetct a good price on ebay or make an excellent poster.

Gutless by RTE they should have told kennedy to f*** off, grow up and do his bloody job. Its a news story, Taoiseach criticised by citizen in humourous manner. They should stop cowering.

In fairness, the item that I saw wasn't so much reporting the event as joining in with the joke. Vox Pop interviews with gallery visitors and passers-by asking them if they'd like to see more of 'that sort of thing' are out of place in news reports and current affairs programs. It might be a fun item for the likes of Gerry Ryan, but it's appalling journalism.

There is a guy in FF who recently held a type of art exhibition, one of them whereby you join up all the dots and colour the bits in-between, it was none other than the bold Pee Flynn, now is he the mysterious artist, himself and the lovely Beverley like a bit of free publicity.

Given the FF and RTE reaction, I confidently predict we can expect more of these "art attacks".

Light-hearted stories that breakup or close a serious news broadcast are a fairly standard feature in English-speaking countries. When done consistently and well, they can even become an institution of sorts: ITN - Fun Stuff

"Appalling journalism?" Try watching more broadcast journalism and you'll run out of outrage pretty quickly.

It was pointed out in last week's Independent business section that while we risk over-stepping into bile with criticism of Brian Cowen that, really, all this guff about respect for the office of Taoiseach belongs in another era: Penalty suffered when Taoiseach hits high and wide on PR scoreboard - Irish, Business - Independent.ie
