From Miriam Lord's column in the IT today

"Nice to see Bertie keeping himself busy. He has a nice gig across the water coming up shortly when he will be guest of honour at the annual dinner of the Cambridge University Ireland Society.

Tickets – a snip at £33 each – were still available earlier this week.

The evening kicks off with a champagne reception at 7pm, followed by a three-course dinner in the stunning Murray Edwards dome, “during which Bertie Ahern will give an address”. Wine is included and the meal will be followed by a port digestif, chocolates and coffee. Alternatives will be provided for non-drinkers. There will be an after-party at the Cricketers Pub, with traditional music and maybe even some dancing.

The students are putting on a fine spread for the former taoiseach on February 11th.

The starter is a pork, apple and calvados terrine, served with warm pitta bread. Main course is chargrilled chicken supreme with mushroom, white wine and cream sauce and desert is a lick-smacking dark chocolate fudge cake with red berry coulis.

That’s ham, grilled supremo and fudge. It is not known if the dessert will be served with Bertie’s favourite sweet – Instant Whip(around).

    Dress code is black tie."

Students in Irl should make contact with their counterparts in the UK and prepare a nice warm welcome for The Great Ditherer particularly if he rambles on about how he created the Celtic Pussy or how he brought peace to NI.

He's on the front of the Irish Times with the Glasses on. I'd write something like "Don dons da shades" above it. Interesting that Sky(of Newscorp stable) chose to hold the only Irish viewing in Fagans with Bertie. Rupert just keeps on giving to the Ahern family and friends.

He didn't even have the decency to stay with de peeple to watch the game. Just popped in for the photo op.

Bertie was also impressed, but he decided against staying to watch the game, instead making a quick appearance before the kick-off to try on the specs.

"He thought it was fantastic, but couldn't stay to watch the match," Eamon's wife Carmel said about Bertie's reaction to it.

Bertie knows how fickle a football crowd can be and he made sure he was not in Fagins after the crowd had wet their whistle, they could easily turn on him, might have had the coins raining down on him.

Its fairly obvious they picked Fagans just for the Bertie photo op as its not a particularly big sports pub.

It's a money making kip. Kennedy's is a real pub!

    +1.

Haven't set foot in Fagans since the time they were happy to take money off us before game in Tolka but refused entry after game. Kennedy's gets our custom now.
