I hear on the Radio today that the Plank was interviewed at DCU recently and was blaming theMedia for the collapse in the Economy. Surely it must be near time to put this eejit in a straitjacket and have him introduced to his local psychiatrist? He clearly needs help.

I wonder why de teef hasn't updated his website to reflect that he is no longer a TD, yet it has been updated with a speech made in the past week.

Bertie Ahern retired as Taoiseach (Prime Minister) in May 2008 having enjoyed the unique distinction in modern Irish politics of being the first person in over sixty years to have been elected to that office on three successive occasions. He continues to serve as a member of Dáil Éireann (Parliament).

He was first elected to the Dáil (Parliament) in 1977 for the constituency of Dublin-Finglas and has represented Dublin Central since 1981. He was Minister for Labour from March 1987 to November 1991 and was appointed Minister for Finance on three separate occasions from November 1991 to December 1994.

    DECLARATION

We have come to the Basque Country today because we believe it is time to end, and it is possible to end, the last armed confrontation in Europe.

We believe this can now be achieved, with the support of citizens and their political representatives, as well as the support of Europe and the wider international community. We want to state clearly that we have not come here to impose anything or claim that we have the right or the authority to tell the citizens of this country, or relevant actors and political representatives, what they should do.

Rather, we have come here in good faith, with the hope of offering ideas drawn from our own experiences of resolving long conflicts that afflicted our own societies and peoples, as well as others we have helped resolve.

We know from our own experience that it is never easy to end violence and conflict and secure lasting peace. It requires courage, willingness to take risks, profound commitment, generosity and statesmanship.

Peace comes when the power of reconciliation outweighs the habits of hate; when the possibility of the present and future is infinitely greater than the bitterness of the past.

We also know from our own experience that when a genuine opportunity for peace arises it must be seized. The growing demand of the citizens of this country and their political representatives to resolve this conflict through dialogue, democracy and complete non-violence has created this opportunity.

Because of all of this, we believe it is today possible to end more than fifty years of violence and attain a just and lasting peace.
Ahern reads declaration at the international conference on the Basque conflict in San Sebastian
We have turned the corner.I commend this Budget to the House. Brian Lenihan, 9 December 2009

Now that the Presidential Election is behind us, can we concentrate on our elusive scut.

Is he entitled, by tradition custom & practice, to an invitation to the President's Inauguration ceremony?

I'd prefer if he were at the Press Conference where the Mahon Report is released. It's a matter of days now.

Protocol dictates that ex-officio members of the Council of State are seated in the third row on the left, just behind the Archbishops and the Diplomatic Corps. So, if he turns up, Bertie will be stuck between Albert and Biffo. Hopefully Biffo will fire off a few of his XXX strength, Guinness-powered depth charges!

The CoS meetings are the only time Ahern and Biffo get to swan around in a state Merc anymore!

SF, the many handed mole of Irish politics. What with the ballot box, the armalite, the PR machine, the long term strategy & the populism, so much work for idle hands, so much danger in the manipulation of the democratic process.
