I came across this interesting article from Joan Burton in Jan 2008, referring to the then Taoiseach's tax troubles:
We now have the unprecedented situation of the head of government being unable to secure a statement from the tax authorities certifying that he is tax compliant. What is of even greater concern is that he appears to have signed a statutory declaration saying that, to the best of his knowledge, there was no impediment to his being supplied with a tax clearance certificate, while also requesting that correspondence between himself and the Revenue be treated as "voluntary disclosure", and being the subject of an ongoing investigation by Revenue.
Thus far, he hasn't sorted his tax affairs out with revenue, and remains the only TD in Dail Eireann without a TCC.
As there is specualtion that the Dail will end in the coming months, will that have any material effect on Ahern's requirement to produce a TCC?
Presumably failure/non compliance having sworn otherwise still results in a case being passed to the DPP, regardless of whether the individual is still a TD or not?
