Why do so many people dismiss one of Europe's most successful party? They have never lost two consecutive elections. Its last loss was 1982. It has at as many members and active supporters as its coalition 'partner' has voters. Its gets over 850,000 people to give it their number one vote, and thousands more vote for fianna fail through transfers. Like the GAA and the Vincent de Paul, it has a presence in practically every parish.

I hope it gets badly beaten in the next election - which I hope is soon. But the lack of respect shown by it opponents is breathtaking. You can never beat Fianna Fail until you appreciate the complexity, breadth and tenacity of its membership. And that it is the closest political embodiment of the Irish people. (doesn't that stink).
