Did Cowen knock a cent off the euro

A friend of mine who works in equities claims that Brian Cowen's rather foolish throwaway comment about the IMF knocked a cent off the euro yesterday.

Do people agree and if so is it time for the men in the mohair suits to put the country and the Taoiseach out of his and our misery by replacing him with some one who is both capable and qualified to run the country?

Obviously a general election would be required to give the new Taoiseach a mandate but anything would be better than the soap opera we are currently subjected to.

Clowen's comments to the unions about the IMF were FF cute hoorism that backfired. Clowen and the rest of the geniuses in Leinster House are an absolute disgrace.

No Cowen cannot claim the credit for that. But Rte might, as they appeared to have done their own version of Lost in Translation, from tokyo.
Look up the rte website. It tends to be a better source of info than one of your mates -except of course for the original story.

I doubt that Cowen's remarks (which were actually a denial that the IMF were going to be involved in Irish affairs) had anything to do with it.

It's a good thing for Irish exports that the euro has fallen in value. Hopefully it'll go down to £0.75 before too long.

Irish exports to the UK will start to become competitive again and traders in border towns will get some much needed relief.

The market isn't rational. I wouldn't matter to the euro if Ireland sank under the sea - but stray comments about the imf are enough to effect the value of the euro because the traders are paid to be irrational.

Cowen should keep it up until the Euro is around 80p again.

They knocked 0.5% off the ECB rate yesterday - it's far more likely that any dip in the euro was simply down to this.

Anyway, after the event of the past 18 months, what the hell are you doing believing anyone who works in equities?!!!

Fascinating - so some stories on RTE are credible and others aren't - and to tell the difference we need to check with a FF hack?
