What price Dermot I'm-too-sexy-to-be-just-Minister-for-Justice Ahern taking over as Finance Minister if Lenihan and Harney fall on their swords?

Or irony of ironies, Michael charisma Martin, who introduced the over 70's medical card in the first place, returning from exile in Iveagh House to fulfill his destiny as Minister for Finance.

Oh God, I love politics.ie like Patton loved war.
its unlikely that there would be a ministerial switch around over this, rather a General Election, to try and cut as many losses as possible

In the middle of the biggest global financial crisis in generations, and a very very nasty domestic economic crisis you see this as a resigning issue? It's like saying that a defense minister should resign once the first soldier is killed in a war. It is a focus for all the justifiable anger against the government, but in itself it this medical cards thing is hyped beyond belief.

I have good authority that John McGuinness, Jim McDaid, Ned O'Keeffe and Sean Haughey are close to leaving too.

I might not agree with the reason for this revolt, but if it brings down Cowen and his precious treaty then good riddance.

Cowen is off to China on Monday. Wonder what's going tohappen over the weekend. I bet the FG phones will be busy.

Also - is the Med Card clawback part of a Social Welfare or a Health Bill? Anyone know when it's being voted on?
