Have Fianna Fail no Shame Exchequer Deficit hits 8.4 Billion

So much for trusting FF to run the economy
Fianna Fail will allow the Irish People, to me milked like Milch Cows, by the CIF through high house prices, rents, and land prices, at the expense of competitiveness, and quality of life. FF+CIF=1

It shows we simply cannot afford such a huge public-sector. Privatisation is urgently needed.

Yes, the public service is a monster, out of control. I personally would be more in favour of large scale redundancies rather than privatisation. The FF GUBUs and their families would engineer privatisation plans in such a way as to ensure they could grab all the gravy and leave the taxpayer with all the gick, as usual.
The numbers working in the civil and public services could easily be halved over a period of say, 5 years. Essential workers like the Gardai and teachers could be spared the worst of the cutbacks, but City and County Councils, the HSE, Government Departments, Quangoes etc etc should be pared to the bone.
This process could begin by freezing salaries and banning new recruitment. Early retirement could then be introduced and proper IT systems introduced to process most of the clerical/admin work that currently takes up so much time. Decentralisation would obviously also be a casualty of any serious effort to reform the public service.

Yes making more people unemployed always solves recession

I really do despair at the lack of basic understanding of society displayed on this site. We have crooks and profiteers racking in record profits left, right and centre but the best solution from the genius that is katy brock is redundancies, wage freezes and banning new recruitment.

Whatever about understanding society, having hundreds of thousands of people draining the state's coffers by clinging onto outdated jobs and work-practices hardly shows much of an understanding of economics, does it? Are you suggesting the GUBUs should re-employ all the unemployed in the public service? Unemployment problem solved eh?

P.s A lot of the public service are already unemployed, it's just that we have to pay them a salary. Show them a redundancy cheque. Then the door.

So fire people and then pay them the dole while getting no labour in return? That's the worst possible solution.

The public sector can be overhauled to make it more effective but the problems are not nearly as great as the privateer money grabbers would make out. Privatisation is no more than the asset stripping of the country and handing it over to profiteers who then bleed services dry.

The fact is a lot of public employees work hard and the public sector is completely underfunded especially health, education and transport.

I have often noticed that people that are in favour of sacking left right and centre when it comes to other people are the biggest whingers and protesters when their turn comes.

I never mentioned sacking. Just downsizing. Sacking would be a lot cheaper but too inhumane.
