I would say that a lot of the younger Fianna Failers (just like a lot of the younger Greens, Fine Gaelers, etc.) would not even know what the 1981 Hunger strike was about.
Fianna fail would have seen the hunger strikes as a threat in 1981 especially in border areas but I dont believe that they would give the hunger strikes political relevance today.Originally Posted by derry_ff

I was a wee bairn at the time but I would hope Charlie and the FF government did make efforts to broker a deal. The five demands purely sought political acceptance.
