Re: Fianna Fáilers - your views on the 1981 Hungerstrikes

There is no doubt that individual members of FF were affected by the Hunger Strike, as already mentioned Sile De Valera was one of those who did intervene in an honest attempt at finding a resolution. My abiding memory of the FF reaction was when a number of protesters gained access to the FF Ard Fheis and attempted to highlight the protest during the televised Haughey address, they were summarily beaten by FF heavies acting as security.

they did not give their lives for a fecking danny morrison/gerry adams strategy that was for sinn fein to go into stormont and criminalise republicans today. 3 of them werent even provos . This is despicable revisionism

they made a stand not just against criminalisation but ulsterisation and normalisation too , the entire British strategy and vision for the north in a head on clash with it . It wasnt to get votes for sinn fein or to persue some path within a British constitutional framework , it was to declare that framework wholly criminal and illegal .[/quote:3r6mt0s9]

Given that definition, they died for nothing and were completly irrelevant.[/quote:3r6mt0s9]

...but 27 years on you're still talking about them?
