Merged threads: Cowen versus Kenny in Dáil row

The Taoiseach has defended the failure of the Government to spend money that has been promised for certain areas of the Health service.

Amidst angry scenes in the Dáil, the Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny told the House that millions of euro promised for palliative care have disappeared into black holes.

Brian Cowen said the Government has to deal with budgetary constraints on a monthly basis.

The Taoiseach also added that he would silence the Opposition if they continued to shout him down.
From Breakingnews.ie. This is ridiculous, the man wants to silence elected members of the Oireacthas. Anybody else think maybe he's going a little bit way way too far!?

Maybe he can't handle the pressure? But the Opposition has every right to make him sweat when he is doing a terrible job.

Ruling in a parliamentary democracy where no opposition can speak is known, if I'm not mistaken, as dictatorship.

Is this the first time in the history of the State that a Taoiseach has threatened to silence the opposition and effectively end democracy?

He basically threatened to do what FG was doing- shout people down. He was right to object to the pathetic and childish manner in which the opposition conducted itself.
The political establishment lacks both vision and courage.

A P.ie moderator stated this on June 25th 2010: P.ie tolerates very broad free speech, and thus allows sectarian bigotry etc

He's the Taoiseach, he's the leader of the house and suppose to rise above that stuff. If it gets out of hand, that's what the CC is there for.

looks like the broy harriers are going back to their anti democratic and anti free speech roots.looks like its up to us to defend democracy as we did on the streets in the 1930s.

This is a clear sign that FF are in trouble, Kenny had him on the ropes yesterday. Gilmore is doing a good job also, shame the summer break is coming soon.
