Did Eoin Ryan jump too soon?

Was just watching Brian Cowens press conferance earlier and noticed Eoin Ryan MEP up near the top of the house in support of his new leader.

I cant help thinking if he had held his fire and remained in domestic politics he may have had a ministerial position come may.............or at least in the reshuffle to come.

Do you think he made the right decision in heading to Europe? Would he have got a job from Brian Cowen??

He's an interesting case, actually. He's the only Irish politician I can think of that actually chose to drop a domestic political career in favour of Europe.

Well considering he is Dublin based, and Cowen would be carefull about propping up either Hanifan and to a lesser extent Lenihan, he would probably have definitely be favoured alright. He seems like a very capable guy, and would be well liked and certainly a pleasant face for the government to throw around every now and then..
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

Gay Mitchell FG also chose Europe over domestic politics.

Wasn't Ryan one of the very few people actually demoted by Bertie, hence his disaffection with domestic FF politics?

One of the more acceptable FF faces to the unconverted.

Unlikely, I would think. He couldn't be given anything until the next GE, after all, and that's too far off to call.

His father was a serious thorn in Haugheys side for many years and would also have been opposed to Bertie ---hence he was never going anywhere while the Bert was about---his grandfather was one of the FF foundindg fathers and a close confidant of Devs---just shows how far FFhad moved from the Devalera legacy-----hope Cowen will reverse the trend----and Iam not a FFsupporter.

His daughter is coming up for co-option onto the council as far as I am aware. She's a good skin and I'd say she will do well with Cowen at the helm.
