Dermot Ahern looks set to run for FF leadership

Just on 6.1 News. Says he will make an announcement tomorrow and that he has made a decision and has already discussed it with his family. The clearest signal yet of a contest.

he must fear demotion under cowen so, which would be a surprise, dermot isd not popular enough to be leader but he is a dour, loyal techocrat that will never cause enbaraasement, as such it was sort of foolish to place him in foreign affairs, a job where its hard to cause controversy, they should place him in a ministry which needs a safe pair of hands

I wouldn't be surprised if he just comes out and says hes supporting Cowen for the leadership. Lets be fair, hes trying to get attention

I think his previous gardening experience i.e. going up and down every tree in North County Dublin after Rambo etc and being unsuccessful rules him out.

I disagree with your interpretation of his intentions. I don't expect him to run, based on his answer to Bryan Dobson about the fact that there aren't "factions" in the FF party which he attributed partly to Bertie's leadership. That sounds like code for supporting Cowen to me.

He just said that he had already decided whether he was going to run or not but wouldn't be talking about it today.

Hw has been vocal in defending ahern and as late as yesterday was publiclly saying that Ahern should give no explanation to the Dail. Clearly the actions of an ambitious man.

The clearest indication was when he suggested that he knew last night that ahern was going.
Given that Cowen already said that he knew last night, the least he could do was to suggest that he was also in the loop.
