    Frank Fahey on Primetime

Did anyone see it? quite funny asked whether it was ethical to accept political donations for personal use, he said no, asked whether he had confidence in the Taoiseach he said yes, I don't see how the 2 couuld add up.

Also it was quite funny the part at the start "Ahern in his Own Words" Where they played his Ard Fheis speech saying that anyone who is untrustworthy at local and national level to the public will not be welcome in the FF party and he believed that with every fibre in his body.

They also went through his tribunal evidence, where he admitted that he hadn't paid his taxes, and where he had misappropriated funds from his local FF cumann.

It was always on the cards for a party that breeds such a high level of high profile corruption and tolerance.

    Re: Frank Fahey on Primetime

We must wait for the Tribunal. Fine Gael cannot be allowed to decide guilt before the Tribunal completes its work......

Tribunals don't establish guilt or innocence. They establish findings of fact.

The fact is Bertie said he believed tax dodgers should go to jail.

The fact is he told the assembled FF Ard Fheis delegates that he was about ethics in office.

The fact is that as Treasurer he told FF fundraisers to dip into their own pockets to clear the party debt, while simultaneously party funds were diverted to help his girlfriend's family.

The fact is he told the Dáil that Ministers shouldn't accept large sums, and that an undocumented loan was as good as a gift if your name was Lowry.

These are his own words. The Tribunal is about fact. The only way their report could differ from Mr Ahern's own words is if they say he lied. If we assume he meant each of these, then no report is required. They are fact.

The saddest fact is that the seried ranks of FF back benchers and junior ministers sent out to defend Bertie are standing by parliamentary Fianna Fáil, and not the republic that their Republican Party ought to stand for.

I agree, with you there he is usually poor in the media spotlight, however nobody can challenge the mans intelligence.

He did get on good point in, though when he said that Ahern said last May, that he wanted to be judged on his tribunal evidence and thats exactly what FG are doing, judging him on his evidence.
