    Tanaiste "pathetic" - Kenny

Enda Kenny, today called Cowen's defense of Ahern as pathetic, he also stated that Cowen was "a willing accomplice to the deceit that is going on in Dublin castle"

Enda Kenny went on to say what had emerged over the last few days, in the Tribunal

    - Large amounts of money (€500,000 in today's terms under inquiry) taken for personal use
    - Taxes not paid and
    - Money belonging to the Fianna Fail party misappropriated for private use.

Enda Kenny then went on to call fir Cowen to end this saga, stating:

"The people of Ireland should not have to endure the sad spectacle of a sitting Taoiseach being decimated by a Tribunal set up to investigate corrupt payments to politicians."

Kenny continued to list out a number of facts that have emerged since and before the last GE:

Fact: More accounts with more lodgements were revealed
Fact: Assurances given to the Dáil and on RTE that he had disclosed all accounts and all lodgements were shown to be false
Fact: The Taoiseach admitted to getting a gift of money when Minister for Finance and not declaring it to the Revenue or paying tax on it.
Fact: £30,000 donated to or collected by the Fianna Fail party for political use was given to Ms Larkin to buy a house at a time when the party was in massive debt
Fact: This money was only refunded after the Tribunal had uncovered its existence.

Is it acceptable to have this situation where no one in government is willing to criticise the sitting Taoiseach, and give out when people pass judgement even though they had no problem doing the same with a certain Michael Lowry?

Fianna Fail is united behind Ahern--they were not united behind Haughey--Haughey was corrupt but despite many members of FFbeing aware that he was corrupt when he was challenged by Albert Reynolds Gerry Collins was mainly concerned that the challenge would burst the party---what about the nation? There is no proof that Ahern is corrupt--he is just unbelievable. What is FFgoing to do to deal with the serious problem hid contiuing in office poses for the nation?.

The key thing was FF could be in denial about Haughey because there was no evidence of wrong-doing demonstrated while he was taoiseach. That something is very seriously has been shown while Ahern is leader and taoiseach.

the difference between Haughey and Ahern is that haughey was a nasty little bollix when he wanted to be and came across as a slieveen. bertie looks like butter wouldn't melt and his childlike stuttering and mispronunciations seemingly endear him to the ************************wits that make up a large portion of this island's residents
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

loner, With respect, you don't know much about 'New Fianna Fail'; there will not be a dry eye in the House when he goes, but take my word the floor will be covered in crocodile tears.

I wonder which FF ministers will be at the Airport to welcome Ahern back on Thursday?

This is not a blueshirt issue, this in a FF issue. The usual FF response is "Look, the blueshirts did it", does this make what ahern did ok??????
